The Unsung Heroes of Rockhurst Athletics

While head coaches and star athletes deservedly get a lot of attention for each of their program’s seasons, there are a lot of people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to allow for 12 varsity teams, 29 sub-varsity team, 90 coaching positions, over 650 of student-athletes to experience what it means to be a student-athlete.

It starts with the Athletic Director, Coach Kruse, and his associates (Coach McGill and Coach Thomas) but is a true team approach that includes: Mr. Paul McGannon, athletic trainer, Mr. Robbie Haden, director of communications, Mr. Lisa Weis, school nurse, Mr. Jake Bradshaw, spirit club moderator, Mr. Billy Linscott & Mr. Dan Shaver, yell leader moderators.

But for now, let’s put the spotlight on our maintenance staff. Walk around the facilities and a general consensus comment is how clean and safe it all is. That is thanks in large part to Mr. DeGraffenreid, director of facilities and Mr. Ron Huska, retiring from the second position of maintenance (with Mr. Steve Meyers taking over). The grounds personnel (Dexter, Danny & Dennis) and all the others who tirelessly go about their vocation to work at the Rock.

Whether it is to set up for a competition, to clean up after one or to keep the areas safe and secure – Rockhurst maintenance puts in thankless hours to allow for our students-athletes to shine and our guests to enjoy.

We salute so many of you who might not get in the newspaper or get honored by your peers for the Hall of Fame or the All-Time team but you are the foundation for which we can build our success.
